Books of Nechemia Samuel Libowitz

Nechemiah Shmuel Libowitz was born in 1862 in the Lomza region where he received his Torah education. In 1881 he emigrated to the United States where he dealt in the diamond trade, dividing his time between business and writing. Libowitz was a bibliographer and a prolific writer, who wrote dozens of works. He also owned a huge Judaica library. Many of his works were printed in very limited editions. In 1927, he immigrated to Eretz Israel, but immediately returned to the U.S. where he passed away in 1939 in New York.

Obituaries and essays on the subject of death, mourning and more, by Nechemiah Shmuel Libowitz. New York. 1914. 72 pp. [2 photograph plates]. 22 cm.

First edition of this work written following the passing of the author’s son, Louis Laurence Libowitz. The son’s photograph appears on the frontispiece, together with photographs of olive trees planted in Eretz Israel in his memory and of his tombstone. This is an unusually rare book, printed in a limited edition of one hundred copies.

It is in good condition, with its original restored cover, and printed on very fine paper. The photographs are printed on high-quality glossy paper with pergament sheets for protection. The final leaf is in photocopy.
