Silver Memorial Plaque for Theodor Herzl‭ - ‬Boris Schatz

Silver plaque commemorating Theodor Herzl, made by Boris Schatz. [1904]. 5 x 10 cm.

Relief of Jews praying together with the chazzan in the center. The image of Theodor Herzl is prominent on the right. On the upper left is a Star of David. Engraved under the relief is the E-l Maleh Rachamim prayer with Herzl’s name and the dates of his birth and death.

Here is one of Schatz’s well-known works of art. He met Herzl in 1903, as a result of which the Zionist Congress called for the establishment of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.

The plaque is in a nice wooden frame.
