A silver plaque, engraved with a dedication to “The Great Rabbi, Rabbi David Edry Levy.” [North Africa, Tangier(?). Early 20th century.] 6 X 10 cm. Weight: 38 gr.

A silver plaque with serrated edges. The words “The Great Rabbi, Rabbi David Edry Levy” are engraved on the front of the breastplate. “Haim Kadoch” is engraved on the back, in calligraphy.

A R. David Chai Edry was born in Safed in 1888 and served as a dayan in Safed and Meron. He travelled to Buchara in 1910 and served as rabbi in a community. In 1912, he went on shelichut to Georgia, and one year later, to Tashkent, where he was appointed rabbi. He returned to Safed in 1920, and then went to Morocco in 1922. He passed away in Morocco. He authored Bad David (Safed, 1922), which includes responsa and Torah novellae. He also left many unpublished manuscripts of Torah novellae.
