Porcelain Passover Seder plate. Karlsbad, Bohemia. Early 20th century. Diam: 27 cm.

With six seashell-shaped holders for the simanim of the Seder plate, with the names inscribed. In the center of the plate is a star of David and the inscription: Karlsbad. At the bottom of the plate is the stamp of the manufacturer: Paul Küchler.

An identical plate appears in Maalin BaKodesh: Shimush Sheni B’Omanut Yehudit, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, 1985, no. 34. That plate was originally designed to display seashells, and only later adapted for use as a seder plate, while this plate was originally intended as a seder plate.
