Lot 84:
A collection of letters about the great merit of supporting the R. Meir Ba’al HaNess charity, and the prohibition of establishing rival charities. Jerusalem. 1903. 8, 42 pp., 20.5 cm.
This work documents a controversy over the attempt by others to establish charities rivaling the R. Meir Baal HaNess charity. The dozens of letters from leading rabbinic authorities over a wide time range all dealt with the issue, and include: R. Chaim of Volozhin, R. Levi Yitzchak of Berdichew, R. Yitzchak Elchanan Spector of Kovno and many more. The booklet was published upon the initiative of R. Shmuel of Salant and R. Eliyahu David Rabinowitz-Tumim (the Aderet), who included their own strong letter on the matter. A rare book.
The book is in very good condition and was printed on paper with acid content.
