Lot 148:
Folding knife for slicing challah on Shabbat. [Eastern Europe. Circa 1900]. 14 cm., opens to a length of 25 cm.
Attached to the outer edge of the knife are four plates made of bone. Two of them bear the inscription ”Shabbat Kodesh.” Righteous men of yesteryear were stringent on using only sharp and unserrated knives. Likewise, they only used folding knives so as not to place a knife (weapon) on their Shabbat table.
