Medallion commemorating the martyrs of the Holocaust. Milan, Italy. 1945. Bronze. Diam: 32 cm.
The medallion was illustrated by Z.A. Pagani (or Padani) and engraved by the famous Italian artist Aurelio Mistruzzi for the Milan Jewish community. Engraved on one side is a Nazi axe broken by lightening under a tree, with a Latin inscription and the dates: “1945” and “5705” in Roman numerals. On the reverse side appears the Temple menorah, a Latin inscription and the word “Israel” in Hebrew. With a pendant.
