The Chassidic Rebbe, R. Meir Yechiel (Halstock) of Ostrowiec was born in 1853 and was a prime disciple of R. Elimelech of Grodzensk. He was famous for his brilliant mind, and was appointed at a young age as Rabbi of Skernowitz, and later of Ostrowiec. Following the passing of his Rebbe in 1892, he became a Chassidic leader attracting thousands. He fasted daily for forty years, eating only at night. He passed away on 11 Adar 1928.
